A-maizing UTILEV Trucks
Northwest maize farmer Henri Snyman has streamlined the handling of fertilizer on his farm and freed up the capacity of his machinery with the acquisition of a 2.5 tonne UTILEV diesel forklift from BHBW.
Snyman, who farms with his son-in-law Neels Lemmer on Doornbult at Gerdau near Lichtenburg, acquired the UTILEV truck to be used for the offloading and storing of slingbags that each contains 40 bags of fertilizer.
Enough fertilizer has to be unloaded, stored and then spread to improve the soil quality of some 1 000 hectares used for the planting of maize on Doornbult. Previously fertilizer handling was done with a front-end loading tractor attachment, making this a time-consuming, laborious process.
“The forklift is much better suited to the task and takes half a day to complete a job that usually took two days,” says Neels Lemmer. “Moreover, it requires less manual effort, which frees up labour for other tasks. Due to its versatility, we’re also able to use the UTILEV for other jobs on the farm.”
The UTILEV was acquired unseen after Henry Snyman called the UTILEV product manager at BHBW, in response to an advertisement. Convinced by her, he picked up a unit from the BHBW dealer in Lichtenburg, Montenegro Agric Trade, the very next morning.
“You’ve certainly delivered on your promises,” says Snyman. “We’re satisfied with the performance of our UTILEV truck and look forward to seeing how much value it will add to our operations.”
